Eight Tuesday Evenings of Guided Writing & Creative Community
with a master teacher
An 8-week, once-a-week small writing group, Tuesdays with Crescent (TwC) is low-key, high-energy, challenging, gentle, surprising. At times, it’s thrilling.
The best way to learn how to write is by writing. So simple — so difficult. But with Crescent, a compassionate, experienced master teacher and the award-winning author of fifty traditionally published books, ease replaces angst.
And then, the thrilling begins.
TwC students discover this not by mere instruction, but by experience. You write in class, learning practices so intriguing you forget to be nervous. You receive guidance that is clear, compassionate, and effective, light-hearted but substantive.
If you have a story to tell and want to tell it; if you are anxious, blocked, or uncertain about how to tell that story; if you are tired of the same-old-same-old and want to jiggle the molecules creatively or personally… Tuesdays with Crescent is for you.
These small-group sessions work for those
- who “want to write, but…”
- who “used to journal, but…”
- are Artist’s Way drop-outs
- are recovering academics, or tech writers
- are storytellers transitioning from verbal to written forms
- who self-identify as new writers
- are experienced or published writers in a dry spell
- want to find, grow, clarify, and energize their writing voice
- are unsure how to integrate voice with experience, stories and ideas …
- have always wanted to study with Crescent “someday”
The 2021 Fall Edition of Tuesdays with Crescent starts Tuesday, September 14th. Limited to 12.
How it works
TwC builds skill and confidence. It grows creative risk-taking, evaporates procrastination.
In TwC, in company with your small group of trustworthy cohorts and Crescent, you take your work to its next level, whatever that level is for you.
Under Crescent’s guidance, writers of all levels of experience abilities and stories that didn’t know they had. Writers at all phases, in all genres, are deliberately combined: beginning or novice, experienced or longing to be, published or not.
Each session builds on the next, with useful, actionable approaches, practices, methods, tools and insights you need now. Add a touch of accountability and the exuberant cross-fertilization of TwC, and you’ll join an intimate creative neighborhood.
Over two months, you will change meh, hand-wringing, what-do-I-do-now and general anxiety into eagerness, enthusiasm, and good writing. And you will have the pleasure of watching others develop, too.
This fall session is an antidote to pandemic frustrations and political and environmental anxieties: a practical way to use the uncertainty of these times. All while basking in the interesting supportive company of others who are also on the writing and growth path.
When: Eight consecutive Tuesday evening Zoom sessions in real time.
How: After you’ve registered ( you’ll receive a quick confirmation, and then, in September, a more detailed one, a few days before we begin. You’ll get the Zoom links each week, just before class, on Tuesdays.
What: All writing takes place in class. TwC is not a critique group, where participants bring in already-written work for discussion and analysis. Nor is it focused on a single genre.
Materials: You come in with nothing more than your own gorgeous messy experienced unique self, and a desire to write – plus a notebook (or laptop). Crescent talks briefly, teaches a bit, and tosses out a topic and the just-taught form. And we’re off to the races.
Group chemistry: You, your fellow classmates and Crescent work together. You’ll go from where you are to your individual next step. Dragonwagon is both tender and tough: she knows when and how to push, and she does it with respect, kindness, humor, and originality.
Fears and intimidation start dropping away within the first few minutes of the very first class.
Reading out loud is optional. There are no grades. There is no way to do it wrong.
